Well, this is a surprise, isn't it? Another surprise is the fact that the vast majority of people upset over this unmitigated disaster drive cars. And they thought the gasoline was coming from where? Mars? Homo sapiens, contrary to its name, doesn't actually think all that much.
On the good news front, you should run out and buy Charlie Winston's CD, "Hobo". The guy is darn good. And, hey, aren't hobos found under bridges? At least occasionally?
And, here's a nice little combination of Charlie and a modern predicament.

Went to an "opening" tonight. Never been to an "opening" before. One of the guys in my swing class turns out to be an artist, and he's not bad. At least, I really liked the things he had on show tonight. Very complex pen-and-ink-ish drawings. That slightly weird description is due strictly to my own ignorance of the varieties of drawing media. Apparently they were "graphite on drawing film". To me, that sounds like "pencil on acetate" but.... Anyway, nice stuff.
On the "social observation" side, it was fun to compare the artist (and his wife) to the patrons. Charlie and Mary looked like just regular folks, while the patrons...well...there seemed to be a general "look at me!" theme, in varying strengths. "Hi! I'm eccentric! Isn't it wonderful?"
And, of course, like an idiot, I left my camera at home.

Talk about "good news/bad news". The fact that this moron can't practice medicine anymore is, of course, the good news. The bad news is also the all-too-predictable news - he's claiming to be a victim, and the idiots who bought his nonsense agree.

Tomorrow I return to work. A new term begins. And, already the dolts have hit the fan. Not students, they're undoubtedly going to be what they always are, a fine mix of darn smart, and darn dumb. Nope. It's colleagues. Fellow department members lacking the key component of the vertebrate phenotype. Lacking that, of course, there's not much chance for the "sapiens" part of H. sapiens to come into play.

So, here's tonight's shocking news surprise: "Suspect's Gun Proved Easy to Obtain". Really?!? In America?!? It was easy?!? No!
In a follow-up shocker, the sun will come up tomorrow.

Just a short (very) rant. I hate artist's statements. For instance, this one (quoted on Tim Atherton's blog). Sort of makes me wonder if there's a course at all art schools - "Fatuosity 101". If you've recently eaten, wait at least an hour before reading.

Facebook. I'm pretty close to just terminating them. First of all, there's this. Second of all, there's the fact that now, instead of a simple list of my favourite authors in my profile, there's a set of links (or, at least, there would have been if I hadn't taken my list out) to vendors selling my favourite authors. Vendors who, I presume, are paying the Facebook folks lots of money for my information. Well, as the saying goes, fuck that.
Back in the 90s, people were warning that commerce was going to fuck up the Web. Whaddaya know? They were right!
