I got nothin'. It's a bin. It's a wall. And there's some weeds. That's it, folks.

Sunday, May 30, 2010

A bright idea waiting to get in? Seems like one might have gotten in here. Fingers crossed, folks.

Saturday, May 29, 2010

Well, this is a surprise, isn't it? Another surprise is the fact that the vast majority of people upset over this unmitigated disaster drive cars. And they thought the gasoline was coming from where? Mars? Homo sapiens, contrary to its name, doesn't actually think all that much.

On the good news front, you should run out and buy Charlie Winston's CD, "Hobo". The guy is darn good. And, hey, aren't hobos found under bridges? At least occasionally?

And, here's a nice little combination of Charlie and a modern predicament.

A big, vacant space. Do you think there's something coming?

Thursday, May 27, 2010

Went to an "opening" tonight. Never been to an "opening" before. One of the guys in my swing class turns out to be an artist, and he's not bad. At least, I really liked the things he had on show tonight. Very complex pen-and-ink-ish drawings. That slightly weird description is due strictly to my own ignorance of the varieties of drawing media. Apparently they were "graphite on drawing film". To me, that sounds like "pencil on acetate" but.... Anyway, nice stuff.

On the "social observation" side, it was fun to compare the artist (and his wife) to the patrons. Charlie and Mary looked like just regular folks, while the patrons...well...there seemed to be a general "look at me!" theme, in varying strengths. "Hi! I'm eccentric! Isn't it wonderful?"

And, of course, like an idiot, I left my camera at home.

Somehow this makes me think of a BP board meeting. Can't think why.

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

I'm filled with confidence, how about you?

Monday, May 24, 2010

Talk about "good news/bad news". The fact that this moron can't practice medicine anymore is, of course, the good news. The bad news is also the all-too-predictable news - he's claiming to be a victim, and the idiots who bought his nonsense agree.

Sunday, May 23, 2010

Watch out for that turn.

Saturday, May 22, 2010

You know, for a great song writer, Hoagy Carmichael couldn't carry a tune in a bucket (as the saying goes). Still, gotta like the songs.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? Evidently, the chef. At least when it comes to parking infractions.

Thursday, May 20, 2010

Anybody else see Rand Paul on Rachel Maddow the other night? Holy crap, what a greasy weasel that guy is!

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Life's a fun thing, ain't it?

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

If you're in the mood for a good book (two, really), try "Old Filth" and "The Man in the Wooden Hat", both by Jane Gardam. They both involve the same characters and can be read in whichever order you find them (though, technically, "Old Filth" precedes "The Man..."). Excellent books.

Self defence. An awful lot of people seem preoccupied with the concept.

Sunday, May 16, 2010

You see the darnedest things on your way to your local library.

Saturday, May 15, 2010

Conflict. It's all about conflict. And, of course, the resolution thereof.

Oooooooh, it's been a long night. Last night (Thurs.), however, was fun. Which, I suppose, explains the lack of a post, doesn't it?

Can verticality be overdone? You be the judge.

Monday, May 10, 2010

Yep. Stumbling home after a night on the town, can you imagine? "Honey, I'm home! Um, honey? Oops."

Sunday, May 09, 2010

Tomorrow I return to work. A new term begins. And, already the dolts have hit the fan. Not students, they're undoubtedly going to be what they always are, a fine mix of darn smart, and darn dumb. Nope. It's colleagues. Fellow department members lacking the key component of the vertebrate phenotype. Lacking that, of course, there's not much chance for the "sapiens" part of H. sapiens to come into play.

Just another visit to another back alley.

Friday, May 07, 2010

Yep, back to the hedges. The trimmed hedges. Can you hear the really bad, really obvious joke coming? Aren't you glad I'm not going to go there?

Thursday, May 06, 2010

Ah, just another quiet evening at home.

Wednesday, May 05, 2010

So, here's tonight's shocking news surprise: "Suspect's Gun Proved Easy to Obtain". Really?!? In America?!? It was easy?!? No!

In a follow-up shocker, the sun will come up tomorrow.

Tuesday, May 04, 2010

Just a short (very) rant. I hate artist's statements. For instance, this one (quoted on Tim Atherton's blog). Sort of makes me wonder if there's a course at all art schools - "Fatuosity 101". If you've recently eaten, wait at least an hour before reading.

Monday, May 03, 2010

Salvidge. Ummmm......?

Sunday, May 02, 2010

Once more into the rail yard, dear friends.

Saturday, May 01, 2010

Facebook. I'm pretty close to just terminating them. First of all, there's this. Second of all, there's the fact that now, instead of a simple list of my favourite authors in my profile, there's a set of links (or, at least, there would have been if I hadn't taken my list out) to vendors selling my favourite authors. Vendors who, I presume, are paying the Facebook folks lots of money for my information. Well, as the saying goes, fuck that.

Back in the 90s, people were warning that commerce was going to fuck up the Web. Whaddaya know? They were right!
