Went to see "A Woman, A Gun, and A Noodle Shop" today. As you might expect from a Chinese film based on a Coen brothers film, things got weird pretty quickly. Fun, though. And it gave me a reason to get out and get at least one new photograph. Have I mentioned how much I hate having a job? Other than the "pay-the-rent-put-food-on-the-table" aspects, of course.

If you've never seen it, you really ought to see "Cyrano de Bergerac". And, what the heck, make a night of it and watch "Roxanne", too. Yeah, the former is much, much better than the latter, but, face it, Steve Martin does do a pretty good take on Cyrano.

School being back in session is really cutting into my quality photography time. Steps will have to be taken!
Meanwhile, over on the "You've Got to Be Fuckin' Kiddin' Me!" front, do the Republicans really expect Americans to fall for this bullshit again? I mean, really? Do they really believe that their fellow citizens are that stupid?

I think I might have mentioned this before, but... I cannot believe that Americans will vote Republican/Tea Party this fall because Obama hasn't turned around, in less than 2 years, 30 years of Republican corruption and incompetence. Ronald Reagan took over in 1981. In 1994, Americans were dumb enough to fall for the Republicans' "Contract With America". Finally, they were stupid enough to vote for an obviously incompetent "good ol' boy" for President. Check out America's economic history folks - these were obviously very, very big mistakes. At the moment, U.S. debt stands around thirteen trillion dollars, all of it accrued under Republican supervision. Obama was able, through his stimulus bill, to throw just under 800 billion dollars at the problem (he wanted to throw more, but, well, you know...the party of "No" did their usual thing). Do you know what 800 billion is in relation to 13 trillion? Um, try the size of the fingernail on your pinky compared to the size of the Earth (it's actually much worse than that, but...). Not likely to change much, is it? And you're thinking of re-electing the morons who got you into this mess?!? Give Obama and the Democrats at least 4 years to undo 30+ years of Republican incompetence.

"Trucks Redux". Cheesy, eh?
If you can find it (and, trust me, good luck on that!), watch a movie called, "Black Cat/White Cat". It's listed as a Yugoslavian movie, but, well, Yugoslavia (in its final incarnation) disappeared in 2003. "Serbian" might be a better description, but... Anyway, it's a heck of a fun movie. Great music, too.

Some days everything just kind of comes together, doesn't it? I was looking at some news photographers' shots from the ever-popular 9/11, and reading the stories of their experiences on that day. And I was reminded (as if anyone needs reminding) of how many people risked their lives that day to save others. How many firefighters and police officers died. And how many of those who lived are still sick today because of all the crap they were exposed to while they worked their asses off to save the lives of people they didn't know, the lives of people of unknown ethnicity, religion, politics. These people just went in and did what needed to be done.
And I thought about how Americans are facing an election this fall. And how polls suggest that Americans want to punish Obama and the Democrats in general for not having done enough. And, well, that's when my head began to really, really hurt.
America is in deep shit today because of years of Republican greed and corruption, and Americans are mad at Obama for not turning that around in two (count 'em, people - two) years. The hell with the fact that he's gotten you (some of you, at least) the possibility of decent medical care, despite the best efforts of the Republicans. To hell with him trying to tax the people who can afford it, and lift some of the burden off the people who really can't. Nuts to his moving stem cell research forward so that there might be some chance to find some way to stop things like Alzheimer's (right-wingers - remember the Gipper?), multiple sclerosis, cancer, and a whole shit load of other hideous diseases currently untreatable. And who cares about his efforts to stave off a major economic meltdown brought on by years of Republican fat-cat-ism. Oh, yeah - screw him, things are still rough. After all of two years of effort. Fighting against Republican intransigence on a level that Eisenhower and the Republicans of the past, men of (and this is an unknown concept among today's Republicans, but...) honour, would be sickened by.
Which brings me to 9/11, firefighters, police officers, and Republicans. Remember, folks, the Republican assholes are the ones denying funding for adequate medical care for the very heroes they use in their PR machine.
If you vote Republican this fall, you've got the I.Q. of a plant.

Hmmm. I've taken up fencing. And today I joined the Vancouver Art Gallery. Hmmm... Am I turning into (to borrow from a famous, though largely forgotten, American politician) an effete snob?
And, speaking of American politicians - are the Democrats really in trouble? Is the average voter really that stupid? Oh....wait.....we somehow managed to re-elect Stephen Harper last time out. O.K., never mind.

Having rejoined the world of the automotively-equipped lately, I've been reminded of the many mysteries presented by my fellow drivers. For example, why do people wait until they're in the clearly-marked "I'm gonna turn left here" lane to actually turn on their left-turn signal? Or, for that matter, until they're mid-turn?
