You know, one of the problems with pursuing a relatively active hobby like fencing is that people expect you to be active. So, tomorrow I'm supposed to go marching up the Grouse Grind with my fencing group. On the off chance that you've never heard of the Grouse Grind (And, really, how could that be? On any list of "Fun Things to Do", it's right up there with being water-boarded.), it's probably the antithesis of hiking. It's steep, ugly, crowded, and, to put it mildly, all around hideous. 2,800 feet of no-fun, straight up.
So, why am I doing this? Amazing what one will do in the name of sociability.

I think I'm going to convert to that whole "shop local" thing. My computer died on Friday. The guys at the repair shop that's barely half a block from me said they could fix it, but they'd need to order the necessary part (a new power supply). I got home from work today (which, in case you're reading this in the far-flung future, is Monday) and found a call waiting on my answering machine - "Your computer's fixed. Come and get it.". Um...wow!

Heart-breaking news. My computer's power supply doesn't anymore. Supply power, that is. So, no postings till that's fixed. Well, I suppose we'll all muddle through somehow, won't we?

You may recall that I went to a Steve Earle concert last Sunday. Well, the following Tuesday, I went to hear Lucinda Williams. It's been a darn fine spring, music-wise. I would highly recommend going to hear either of them, if you get the chance. The band currently backing Ms. Williams is especially good. Bass, guitar, drums - that's it. But they're darn fine. And, of course, Ms. Williams is a fantastic songwriter. She sings real good, too.

The day I have to spend more than 20 minutes on my daily commute is the day I ask to be committed to one of those comfy padded cells. Although, in favour of this guy's choice, at least you can read on a train. Tough to do when you're driving. Well, in theory anyway. An awful lot of morons with cell phones seem to be putting it to the test.
