Went to see "Becoming Jane" today. Good movie (don't you love my elaborate reviewing style?). It made pretty plain the terrible conditions for women in those days - no chance for an inheritance, no chance for a reasonable job...Basically, it was a choice of get married or die in poverty. Charming.
